It’s free but you’ll have to jump through some hoops to complete the process. This is why it’s so beneficial. Less-than-legitimate companies won’t be able to complete the submission which creates greater trust at Google.
According to Acxiom, submissions are redistributed:
- Directly to over 80 companies in the Internet Yellow Page and Local Search marketplace
- Directly to the largest search engines
- 250+ distribution partners through online private labeled solutions
- Directly to the top directory print publishers
Hoop #1 – Your Password Is Too Weak
You’ll need to create an account first and the password requirements are strict:
Password must be at least 10 characters long, have no consecutive repeating characters, and contain a minimum of one number, one upper case letter, one lower case letter, and one special character.
Hoop #2 – Only 1 Business May Apply
If you attempt to create more than one account from your office, they will stop you in your tracks:
There was an error processing your request:
IP address already used by another user
Auto-fill from your browser won’t work on this page and they make you start over from the beginning, those that carry on are already showing their tenacity. Boom! Now that you have your account set up you’ll search for your business. If it’s not listed you can add a new business. This brings us to….
Hoop #3 – Business License Required
Basically, the business name & address you are submitting must be an actual legitimate licensed business with the exact business name & address on the license. Here’s their exact wording:
PLEASE ENTER THE BUSINESS INFORMATION TO BE ADDED TO THE ACXIOM DATABASE AND HAVE YOUR VERIFICATION DOCUMENT READY TO UPLOAD.
You will need documentation to validate your business. We do not accept documents obtained or scanned from Internet sites or W-9 Forms. This documentation must be submitted with your business information or your listing will be denied and you will have to reenter the information and resubmit.Accepted documentation:
- Federal Tax License Letter (submit the letter that includes your id number, name, address and/or phone number of business)
- State, County, or City Business License or Sales Tax License
- Doing Business As License
- Fictitious Name Registration
Your uploaded document must contain the following:
- Business Name
- Address 1
- City
- State
- Zip
NOTE: BUSINESS NAME AND ADDRESS ON UPLOADED DOCUMENTATION MUST MATCH YOUR REGISTRATION INFORMATION ENTERED ON THE RIGHT.
After entering your business information and clicking Add Listing you will be taken to the Document Upload screen.
PLEASE HAVE THIS DOCUMENTATION READY FOR UPLOAD BEFORE ADDING YOUR LISTING.
The list of category options for your business is absolutely exhausting. It may take you 10 minutes just to scroll to the appropriate category. We’ve never seen anything like this category list before. It’s unique.
Then just when you’ve submitted your incredible PDF and click “SUBMIT” – nothing much happens. You’ll click it again just to be sure. “Thank You” appears in small letters – but you are not taken to a next step and it’s totally unclear what to do next. Did it work? Am I done? What do I do now? You’ll probably click next on “My Business Listings” where you’ll see…
Hoop #4 – Awaiting Review
Your submission status will read “AWAITING REVIEW”. How long will this take? Will I be notified by email? Why do I feel so unloved right now? Yes, well, Acxiom stopped holding your hand awhile ago. You don’t get any congratulations or an email confirming that your submission was received. One would likely then not expect any future warm & fuzzy communication. All you can do is HOPE everything will go well in the review process and great benefit will soon someday be yours. So now you should just get on with the next task on your to-do list for the day and don’t look back!
Good luck! And please let us know your frustrations & victories with Acxiom.
